There has been harmony among the children this week as they focused on group work is so highly appreciated in this class.

Dear Parents

The spring is almost fully on. It is fun to watch children enjoy it sometimes. However there is still need for harmony in the class.
Visit to Historiska Museum/Chess
Grade fours will visit Historiska muséet on Monday to watch the Viking Exhibition with Agnes and Patrik. We have also engaged extra time for chess in preparation for the “schack 4”. The chess competition will be held in Globen on the 30th March, 2015.
Mathematics
The test results for Mathematics are out and the results were great as usual. I will send them home for signatures before we put them in the portfolio files. The next topic will be statistics.  We will collect data over areas in our own interests for example favourite foods, favourite colours, favourite writers, tabulate the information and illustrate the results in bar graphs, line graphs or pictograms.
Circulation Library
There is a possibility to borrow books once more from the Circulation Library.  The play Romeo and Juliet was not available.  I will borrow two more class sets.
Portfolio
The children started to organise their Portfolios. This will enable them to follow their progress systematically in every subject until they receive the report formal report ( omdöme) for their final assessment this academic year. The detailed structure of the portfolio will be included on the blog.
Solar Eclipse
The eclipse of the sun was an outstanding fascination to the students. A link is on the blog about how the eclipse occurs.
Homework
The children will do 3-5 pages of Mathematics on the topic Time. Those who have finished with Time as a topic will start with Statistics.
Easter Holiday Form
I have enclosed and Easter holidays forms to parents. Please fill the form urgently and hand it in on Monday next week.

 Kindest Regards

Dear Parents,
Greetings to all parents once more.
Class Situation
There is still effort needed towards getting the children to settle down calmly and focus on their tasks. This has not succeeded in the Handicraft classes Carpentry and Tailoring.
We made a collective effort to talk to the children about the dangers of not obeying rules during the respective lessons.
Good News /Homework
There is great efficiency on the part of homework however for many children and this is simply impressive. I had a reflection with the children about the homework and some of them feel that they need more work. Many children feel that it is important for them to feel that they have accomplished some good work. Let us join hands and help the children with the management of the homework and above all seeing to it that the work is done and handed in. When the children will have attained a certain level of maturity, they will be able to organise and handle their homework on their own. Their ability to be independent is essential for achieving higher goals when they will be required to have grades.
An English Worksheet “Rocky and the Lioness” has been issued. Mathematics homework will be issued on Monday.
Mathematics
A test has been administered for mathematics. Most of the children finished the test in good time. One reason why they do the tests is to learn to be efficient enough with the tasks that they perform and to accomplish tasks within the time allocated. I am sure the results will be good.
Natural Sciences
We continue to do constructions of vehicles. This time we will  keep the vehicles that will have assembled to allow possibility for modifications.

More information will be in the next Newsletter. Have a great week.

Kindest Regards

Dear Parents
It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to communicate with you once more.
Concentration
The children have been quite unable to focus and to stay on tasks. In the first two days it was almost as it was in the first weeks. I appeal to all the parents who have contributed to talking their children into focusing on their school to continue to do that. It is amazing that some boys who were never a problem in the class are becoming pretty rebellious and unruly. Let us kindly join hands towards creating a conducive learning environment for the children.
English
We have basically been polishing the Grammar, Vocabulary and Comprehension tasks. I concentrated on scaffolding the children to make their comprehension answers complete sentences. Some children are rushing over their work a little too much just to complete the homework this has resulted in the reducing the quality of the work and the presentation not neat as it was before. Let us help one another to monitor the quality of the work.
Movies
We watched a movie at Zita that evoked strong feelings of pity. The movie was in the post apartheid era in South Africa. It related how a talented boy called Felix succeeded in becoming a great saxophone player in despite of the hardships he experienced as a child. Many children were inspired by the movie.
Natural Sciences
The children managed to construct vehicles out of their own fantasies and tested their ability to move. We will be going to a more serious phase of the construction where the children will incorporate practical effects of weight, force, friction, elasticity and work. This area of study is great fun to the children.
The Circulation Library
I am unable to borrow more class sets of books since 3 copies of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory have not been handed in by the students. Please help to check at home in case a child forgot to hand in a copy. It will be a shame to kill the enthusiasm the children have for reading a class set of books just because of being unable to hand in all books.
Homework
The worksheets that the children have in English should be completed. I have issued worksheets for Mathematics and English for homework. A test will be issued centred on the topic: Time. A spelling test will also be done on Friday week 11.

Have a great week
Kindest Regards
